Rooftop Solar Power Plant at Pune Railway Station, Maharashtra

Pune Railway station has taken a great green initiative by installing a 160 kWp solar power plant at the rooftop of platform No. 1 and the reservation building of the station.

Persistent Foundation, the CSR arm of Persistent Systems Limited, Pune have come up with this flagship initiative. It has donated the solar power plant as a part of its CSR activity to Pune Railway Station.

The system consists of 510 solar modules and string inverters. It is generating about 600-650 units of electricity per day on a bright sunny day. Annually, it will generate 2.3 to 2.4 Lakh units. This power is being used by Pune railway station during the daytime. About 60% of the total daytime power requirement has been taken up by solar.

The solar power plant is also synced with the Diesel generator along with MSEDCL supply. The construction of the system was done in 2 months’ time. The life of the system is of 25 years.

The entire system is monitored online to know the generation and preventive maintenance.

The solar power plant will also help in reducing about 185 to 195 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. This is equivalent to planting 32,000 trees and avoiding smoke emitted from 150 small cars in a year.

Sunshot Technologies, Pune has done the complete engineering and construction of the solar power plant on a turnkey basis. Sunshot is also doing the operation and maintenance of the plant.

The solar power plant was commissioned on June 4th, 2016.
